What To Expect During Your First Brazilian Wax

Are you considering getting rid of all your hair "down there" and going completely bare with a full Brazilian wax? Well, keep reading, bonita! Nowadays there are many women opting to rid themselves of hair on their intimate areas, and Brazilian waxing is the preferred method of hair removal. With good reason. Getting a full Brazilian was will not leave you completely hairless (even on your bum), it also gives you the softest, smoothest skin on the most delicate parts of your body. Even with such amazing results, to look forward to, getting your first Brazilian wax can be pretty nerve-racking if you don't know what to expect.

The first thing you should know is that at Depil Brazil Waxing we make the entire process from start to finish stress-free, easy and comfortable for you! We pride ourselves on providing you with the TRUE Brazilian wax experience. So, you should be completely at ease knowing that your wax is going to be done as efficiently and professionally as possible. Sure, it may feel uncomfortable at first, but before you know it the wax is over and you're only left with a month of smooth and silky skin!

If you're ready to bare it all and go with a Brazilian, here's what to expect from your wax.

"What's a Brazilian Wax?" There are all types of hair removal services. The Brazilian remains the most popular hair removal method in the country. Unlike the bikini wax, where hair is removed only from the top and sides of the bikini line, the full Brazilian wax removes hair from EVERYWHERE. That's the front, back, sides, and everything in between. Yep, that includes the hair between the buttocks too!

Before Your Wax Let's just get the uncomfortable truth out there first, if you're getting your Brazilian wax done for the first time, yes, you may experience some discomfort. However, it's really difficult to say who much discomfort or pain you may feel since everyone's threshold for pain varies. Some feel slight pain, some feel none. But the pain will never be completely unbearable and the discomfort is it's worth it and that it gets better with each session. If you're feeling uneasy, just speak with your wax pro before your appointment and she will provide you with a complete education on the process.

Another important thing to remember before you arrive is that your hair should be 1/4 inch long before you get it waxed. If it's longer than this, you may feel slightly more discomfort. If it's shorter, you should wait a bit until the hair grows. If you're using a razor to get rid of hair you should stop shaving at least three weeks before getting a wax.

Once you arrive for your appointment be sure to have the area thoroughly washed and clean (a bonus tip: a warm shower will help open up your pores so the hair will come out easier from the root). In addition, the warm shower will help you relax and you want to be calm and collected before your appointment. If you are feeling stressed or tense, you're more likely to flex your muscles which will make the hair hurt more as it's coming out.

We also recommend choosing to wear loose-fitting or breathable bottoms and undies. Your skin will be sensitive afterward, and your chances of redness and irritation increase if you wear tight or fitting clothing or underwear. So nix the thong and opt to wear breathable cotton panties or bottoms. This goes for you too guys!

If you're unsure of your pain comfort level, you can also take an over-the-counter pain killer about an hour or so before your appointment.  You also want to avoid getting your wax while on your period. You're more sensitive when you're on your period and the pain will be amplified. Try to time your appointments at least 1-2 weeks after your cycle has ended.

During Your Wax When you arrive at Depil Brazil for your appointment our knowledgeable and wax pros will be there to provide you with complete care and security.  You'll be directed to a private wax room where you can ask your technician any last minute questions or share any concerns about the process. When you are ready you will be given privacy to remove everything from the waist down and lie on a clean table area with clean paper or sheets.  Although the thought of being totally exposed in front of a stranger may make you blush, much like your gynecologist, our wax pros have seen it all before.

Once the waxing process has begun, it typically takes between 15 and 30 minutes. Hygiene is our top priority at Depil Brazil. Our wax pros wear gloves during the wax and never double-dip the wooden waxing stick into the wax. Instead, we use fresh sticks for each application and ensure the wax is tempered and spread evenly to provide a better wax.

The waxing starts in the front and moves toward the back. You may be asked to help hold areas on the body that the wax pro cannot reach. Be sure to let your waxer know if you want a landing strip or everything off.

When the wax has cooled, she will pull the strip off, in the opposite direction of your hair growth. This quick motion pulls the hairs out by the root. You may be asked to turn over and lie on your stomach or you may be asked to kneel on the table so that the hair can be removed from your buttocks. Don't be embarrassed if you're asked to hold your cheeks apart.

After Your Wax Getting a Brazilian wax is a game-changer but bad aftercare will leave in more pain and discomfort than the wax itself ever could! It's best to be proactive against any potential side effects from waxing. So you'll want to avoid anything that can irritate the skin for at least 24-48 hours after your wax. That includes wearing loose clothing, using fragrance-free products, and no rough sex, or sweaty workouts.

We recommend using an exfoliate to gently scrub the areas and then applying a lotion or moisturizer after your shower. This will help you avoid bumps, redness or ingrown hairs. Because the skin will be raw and sensitive, you must be careful not to cause further irritation by scratching. Try to help soothe the area by using an aloe gel or our Ingrown Hair Serum to help soothe the skin.

You'll be instantly addicted to the smooth, silky skin and the freeing feeling of being completely bare. But the thing about hair, it grows right back—albeit finer and lighter—and you'll have to do it again. Brazilian waxes last about three to six weeks. The best thing you can do for your skin is to wax regularly. The more you do it, the longer the results last. If you wait longer or only get waxed a couple times a year, it will be much more painful. Before you leave your appointment, be sure to book your next appointment so you can keep the smooth longer.
